The European Confederation of Watercolour Societies Annual Exhibition will be organized in this summer, 1.7.-24.7.2011 in Turku by the Finnish Watercolour Society in cooperation with the Forum Marinum. Organizing exhibitions is one of the activities of the European Confederation of Watercolour Societies (ECWS, founded in 1998). ECWS is an international confederation of11 European national watercolour societieshaving its main officein Belgium. Last year’s exhibition was held in Antwerp, Belgium and the one before that in Segovia, Spain. All member societies can participate. Five paintings are invited from each society to Turku, which means five painters, each sending one painting. This makes the number of paintings to 80-90.The society organizing the exhibition can have more painters than the other ones showing their art. This time also five Estonian paintings/artists have been invited; Tallinn being a European Capital of Culture 2011 as well.In addition to the main exhibition aboard the Swan of Finland there will be a small exhibition of Nandor Mikola’s watercolours.
Combined to the Sea and The Harbous -exhibition there will be an international symposium consisting of talks on watercolour art as well as free painting together by the Aura River and in nearby Naantali town.
The Finnish Watercolour Society is a national union of the Finnish watercolour painters having about 650 members from all over the country. The Society’s President is Mr. Jarmo Virmavirta, Vice President Mrs. Sirkka Laakkonen, The Honorary President is Mr. Antti Lassila.
